Broken Hill Youth Accommodation & Support Service

Broken Hill Youth Accommodation & Support Service was established in 1991 to provide an identified need to support homeless and those at risk of homelessness youth aged     between 16—24years of age.

This program provides services to homeless youth & those at risk of homelessness offering support to assist young people to live independently within our community.

Broken Hill YASS Inc. is NOT a refuge.  We provide medium to long term Semi-Independent Supported Accommodation for 16-24 year old youth

Supported Accommodation

Broken Hill Youth Accommodation & Support Service Inc. plays an important role within the community by assisting young people in need of emergency or medium to long term (3 months max.) supported semi-independent accommodation.  The main objective for YASS staff, is to help young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, access or maintain their current tenancy in the local community.

The staff of YASS Inc. Are committed to providing any reasonable support requested or assessed on an individual needs basis to enable clients to eventually move into the private rental market and assist them to maintain an independent living arrangement within the community.

YASS Inc. client’s welfare and general support is provided by trained and experienced   Youth Workers who work in conjunction with Compass Housing who are the property providers/managers for YASS Inc. clients who are referred for accommodation assistance.

Information and Referral

Broken Hill YASS Inc. staff provides   information to young people who present for assistance on an individual needs basis

All clients are treated with respect in regards to their personal situation and all information gathered is treated with the utmost of confidentiality.

Where clients are in need of specialist or other professional assistance, YASS staff will endeavour to link the client with the appropriate service provider via referral.

If required, YASS staff will also act as advocate on behalf of clients to liaise with other service providers as the need arises.
