Your Local Community Partnership
About Us
Far West Vocational Education Project Inc (FWVEP) is a not-for-profit organisation funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Industrial Relations (DEEWR). Through the Government initiative Career Advice Australia our Local Community Partnership (LCPs) core focus is to promote, deliver and service Vocational Programmes to young people, through building partnerships with schools, students, parents, employers, industry and community groups.
Mission Statement
Far West Vocational Education Project is committed to providing quality guidance and support to all young people aged 13 years – 19 years in gaining the skills, experience and professional guidance to help them achieve a successful transition through school to further education, training and employment.
Our Region
Far West Vocational Education Project service region incorporates the entire Far Western Region of New South Wales including the communities of Broken Hill, Ivanhoe, Menindee and Wilcannia.
Structured Workplace Learning
The structured workplace learning (SWL) programme aims to facilitate the provision of structured learning opportunities to students in a real or simulated workplace. In most cases, the skills are assessed and achievement of competencies is recognised nationally by industry and education systems.
Career Transition Support
The primary role of the LCPs under the Career and Transition support (CTS) programme is to facilitate access for young people to a range of career and transition support services and resources which link with and complement existing programmes and services.
The Adopt a School Programme
LCPs encourage businesses to adopt a school(s) in order to engage young people in hands- on learning experiences in a specific industry sector, preferably in a skills needs or emerging industry sector. The aim of this programme is to enhance further engagement between the industry sector and students by undertaking a joint project over a nominated period of time.
Mentoring for our Students Programme
Aim is to engage young people with recently retired, partly retired or fully employed tradespeople, professionals and paraprofessional as mentors to encourage young people to seek out careers in areas experiencing skill shortages and to enhance their industry knowledge. Utilising the knowledge and experience of older Australians to pass on their skills and knowledge to young Australians so as to improve school retention rates and transition of young people.
