A Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) is a group of people working together to take action on drug-related concerns in their community. The team usually includes community members, local residents, government agency representatives, local government and local non-government organisations.
What does a Community Drug Action Team do?
- identify drug-related problems in their local community
- identify gaps or potential overlaps in local services which work on drug-related issues
- work with organisations and other community members to meet community needs
- Develop a Local Drug Action Plan describing how to take action on local drug-related issues.
Aim
To bring together the Broken Hill community to identify, prioritise and respond to drug related issues.
Objectives
- Bring together key agencies, stakeholders and local residents to respond to drug and alcohol related issues in the Broken Hill local government area.
- Enable the Broken Hill community to comprehend and take ownership of drug issues by encouraging community and inter-agency involvement to identify and develop initiatives to address them.
- Work within the World Health Organisation (WHO) Safe Communities model using an evidence based approach to issues.
